Exhausted Briton Jonny Brownlee needed to be helped over the finish line by brother Alistair in a dramatic end to the Triathlon World Series in Mexico.
Leading with 700m left, Jonny, 26, began to weave over the road in hot and humid conditions in Cozumel.
Third-placed Alistair, 28, caught his brother, propping him up for the final couple of hundred metres before pushing him over the line in second place.
They were overtaken by South African Henri Schoeman, the eventual winner.
Victory in Mexico would have given Jonny the world title, but second place left him just four points behind Mario Mola.

Whilst it was great to see, it is clearly an advantage having your brother in the field.
I'm sure no one would have dragged the Spaniard along in the same scenario, and pushed him over the line first.

Ali said in interview afterward that if he (Johnny) needed medical assistance, that the finish line was the safest place to be so he could get it immediately rather than being stuck out out on the course.

The Spaniard finished down the field I believe so they would have had to wait for him.
I understand Jonny Brownlee needed a win to take the World series title so it was the S African overtaking him who cost him the title.
You could of course argue that Jonny was in distress but in the hands of the stewards who were looking after him.
Grabbing someone in that state and dragging them 200yds before throwing them over the line might not have been the safest action.

I said that a while back.
As a younger brother myself I think he is too subservient to his older brother. The positive is that you get the impression that the older is just losing his advantage as shown in this World Series (though I believe he was injured earlier in the season).
I bet just as Jonny is getting close to beating him that Alistair will retire.

The interpretation of the Triathlon body was that assistance by other athletes is not considered outside assistance. Don't think they defined the limit of that assistance ... which was what the Spaniards were querying.
So piggy backing , towing someone else's bike or pushing them through the water are ok.
Though I guess if you get the 3rd Brownlee to rugby tackle the Spaniard and hold him down HE may get disqualified.

Completely within the rules of triathlon to give assistance, so long as the fucked up chaps legs are still on the floor, so no piggy backs allowed.
Basically the dago's and sven can do one ;o)

Brilliant thing to see in sport. I have to say, I make the Saffa right. His killer instinct lead him to win the race and the face is, he was going to overtake him anyway.

Spaniards finished first and third overall so obviously wanted to get their third placed guy into second.
Seems it's all about not allowing 'outside assistance' so you can't have someone run on and help.
The reason it's 'outside' is because competitors often help each other by zipping up wetsuits for each other or sharing drinks and they didn't think that should be outlawed.
That's fine but that's different to carrying someone down the track.
